While my mom was in town, she taught me how to make dresses! I had never used a pattern or attempted to make a dress before, but it was time I learned. We started off with the Lucy dress above for our friends in New Orleans whose daughter is 3. I learned how to make buttonholes, sew buttons, and make a lining. It has been sent and received so I can share now. I found the Alexander Henry fabric at Joannes.
The next thing on our list was a pillowcase dress from a vintage pillowcase. It was really easy and it will be for our little girl next summer.
I then went overboard (and still am going overboard) making other cute dresses to keep for our little one on the way. This is the same Lucy pattern in a 1 year size using fabric from Joanne's. I love this fabric. It is so bright and cheerful.
I also picked up this lady bug type fabric at Joann's for around $3 a yard. I like the faux patchwork and pinks and reds.
Here is the summer wardrobe thus far. I have another one almost finished in pink seersucker. Can a little girl have too many dresses?
Never too many dresses. But if she is like mine she will prefer shorts. Very cute, I know she won't have a say for a while. Have Fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the first one so much! Those dresses go together so fast, don't they? You can make them reversible, too. You are going to have so much fun sewing for a little girl! And you can make one of those pillowcase dresses in a/b 30 min. or less! Wonderful, isn't it? That a cute little wardrobe you've started. Have fun!

ReplyDeleteOh, looking at your blog, I wish my mother could teach me how to sew from patterns! Sigh, anyone want to come visit PEI, Canada and teach me to make dresses? I've got pieces cut out for an adult one but am stomped. My former quilting teacher might help, I hope, anyway.
ReplyDeleteAll the dresses are beautiful, and what a great way to use an old pillow case, especially when your little girl wants to play in the muddy sandbox :) no point using the really really nice ones for that!

Never too many dresses! I have a couple of princesses that would wear them non-stop except for the fact that they don't sit very lady-like yet :)

I agree with Tamara, you can never have too many dresses! I LOVE that pillow case dress. Was it a pattern? If not, can you do a tutorial?

ReplyDeleteThe dresses are just the cutest little things and so very well made! I knew when I found out you were expecting a little girl she would be blessed with your awesome hand work. Besides quilts, she'll have a delicious wardrobe in such sweet fabrics for years to come. No, a little girl can never have too many sweet dresses.

those dresses are super awesome! I hope your little girl fits into the 12 month when she's a year! My little girl is 7 months old and already in 18-24 month sizes she's so tall!
